Byangee Walls - SHORT NOTICE OVERNIGHT WALK
Sat 05th Apr 2025
Bookings available to active members only.
This weekend looks rain free and there's a quarter moon - so it looks to me like a good opportunity to do an overnight hike, camping at the top of Byangee Walls, to check out the stars and maybe catch an Aurora! I also want to use my special heat map to scout out potential passes so I'll be bringing my rope. Participants can opt out of the scouting.
As it's a long drive there (at least 3 hours) we'll leave Canberra late afternoon on Friday to car camp at Long Gully campground before starting the hike on Saturday morning. Water on Byangee Walls is unreliable so participants will have to carry all their water for the two days. We might get lucky and find water in the rock pools so take purification just in case. On Sunday we will will do a scrubby sidetrip out to Pickering Point (a return trip of 6km) before heading back off the Walls to the cars.
Nb: due to the optional scouting activity, there'll be rock scrambling and use of rope, so participants involved in this need to be fit, have climbing skills and a head for heights.
Nbb: the start and finish times do not include travel to/from the walk.
A multi day backpacking or base-camping activity.
