Planned Rou te: From our starting point, we soon veer off the main fire trail toward s the Summit Path, to go along the Botanic Gardens trail approx 200m til l reaching the first track going up that connects with 'Hat band' / Fore st loop (73m climb). Have bit of a breather along the Hat Band (flat), b efore linking up with another bush track (narrower, 36m climb) that inte rsects with the Summit path. The bush tracks going up are very distinct, however rocky underfoot and gravelly. Once reaching the top, we then he ad down on the Summit path (formed concrete path) till reaching the junc tion with the 'Hat Band '/ Forest Loop track. At the junction, we turn o nto the Hat Band track heading anticlockwise and continue approx 100m ti ll reaching a small forest track going down, which connects with Black M ountain Road fire trail. On a wide and steep fire trail, we then loop ba ck up to connect with the Summit path and climb to the very top again (1 00m climb). We reach the top twice, however the second time is not from the very bottom, already half way up! From the top, we then head back do wn along the Summit path to our cars. The route taken for our last week #4 is a repeat of the route un dertaken in Week 3 (which was slightly varied and required a little more effort than the route undertaken in Weeks 1 and 2).
