April Presentation - ACT F&R Community Awareness Program - followed by General Meeting
Hilly Salmon Krone from ACT Fire & Rescue will present to Canberra Bushwalking Club members and visitors on the Emergencies App and Fire and Rescue’s response to a remote rescue situation. Useful information links: Incident Map: https://esa.act.gov.au/ - to get the updated information on all emergency incidents in the ACT. Fire Danger Ratings: https://esa.act.gov.au/be-emergency-ready/fire-danger-ratings - for Information about the Fire Danger Rating system. **General Meeting** Following the presentation, there will be a general meeting for members to vote on a proposed new constitution. The proposed constitution and an explanation of the reason for the change and a summary of the changes are available on the Canberra Bushwalking Club website. https://canberrabushwalkingclub.org/about-us/governance-policies/new-constitution/ The current CBC Constitution was first written many years ago in the 1960s. While minor updates have been made since, the last being in November 2020, the Committee has concerns as to whether it is still legally compliant and fit for purpose. The proposed Constitution will bring CBC in line with current Model Rules and legislation for associations such as ours. It was written for CBC by Synergy Law, who specialise in governance, so we can be confident it will give us a legally sound and comprehensive framework for managing CBC on a day-to-day basis, and for managing difficult situations such as disputes. Only members can vote, and for the motion to pass at least 75% of members present at the meeting must support it. It is a high threshold; however it is the threshold required by law. The more members who vote the more representative of the broader membership the result will be. Any questions or concerns please email to the committee at committee@canberrabushwalkingclub.org, or Andrea Coomblas, Vice President, at president@canberrabushwalkingclub.org. We are looking forward to seeing you in April.
