ACT Border walk section 1: Kowen from Kings Highway to Sutton Road
Tue 27th Aug 2024
Walk
This elevated route provides excellent views to the south and southwest. The walk follows the fire trails on the edge of Kowen Forest from the Kings Highway west to Sutton Road.
The vegetation will include attractive woodland and farmland as well as pine plantation.
The leader has walked much of the ACT border and is planning to complete that circuit with day walks along the eastern and northern sections, including this walk. The ACT Border reflects some wonderful early twentieth-century history, involving surveyors braving rough country and the full spectrum of weather conditions:

On our walk, we might find some lockspits, legacy markers from that time.
While there will be no scrub, it will be a solid day and requires a reasonable length car shuffle. So, in the best tradition of Tuesday walks, we will start early.
