Goorooyarroo and the sleepy knolls
Sun 18th Aug 2024
Goorooyarroo Nature Reserve is an 829-hectare protected area located in north-eastern Canberra adjoining Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve to the north-west, together forming a continuous protected area extending across more than 18 km² of woodland. This loop walk explores various aspects of the grassy woodlands of this reserve along fire trails, foot pads and off-trail criss-crossing the undulating landscape with at times steep sections and rocky/grassy slopes that are slippery and/or unstable under foot. Walking pole(s) might be useful at times. It’s a good morning's effort, with an elevation gain of 400m, equivalent to a 15km hike, taking approximately 4 hours to complete. The knolls offer great views of the surrounding regions, Sutton, NSW to the east, and Canberra to the west.
