Opera House Hut

(TRIP FULL - waitlist started) A multiday pack walk to the remote Opera House Hut at the base of Lady Northcote Canyon. Starting from Charlotte Pass carpark, we cross the Snowy River and follow a valley up to Muellers Pass, then head out towards Mt Townsend and camp nearby. Day 2 we descend down some very steep sections of Townsend Spur and Abbott Ridge, down a steep scree slope to Lady Northcote Creek, then along an old track to the hut where we will camp nearby. Day 3 involves a very steep ascent of Crags Creek under Watsons Crag to the upper Twynham West Ridge, then camp near the headwaters of Strzelecki Ck. Day 4 we will return to the cars at Charlotte Pass via the main range track and drive home.

Given time and weather, there may be opportunities to visit Mt Townsend, Alice Rawson Peak, Lady Northcote Creek upper falls and Canyon Falls

Note there are some very steep rocky sections that may require pack hauling or lowering with a rope. Accordingly, members need to be comfortable with rock scrambling with a pack, and heights exposure. This is a walk for experienced, fit, off track walkers.
