Great South Coast Walk Stage 6
Fri 17th Nov 2023
Walk, Car Camp
This is the sixth stage of the Great South Coast Walk. It goes from Tathra to Wonboyn (115 km over 7 days / 8 nights) and we will be camping most nights, four in Tourist Parks (Eden x2, Pambula Beach and Boydtown) and three in the more basic National Park campsites (Hobart Beach, Saltwater Creek and Bitangabee). The last night will be in cabins at Wonboyn. We have a support vehicle, so only day-packs will be needed for walking. Backpacks with tents, clothing, food etc will be transported from place to place with the support vehicle.
The first night will spent at Eden, after which we travel to Tathra by maxi-taxi to start the walk and will cover ca 15-20 km per day for 3 days back to Eden. A car-shuffle will get the vehicles to our end-point at Wonboyn and we will walk there over four days ( 9-23 km). The walk is flat to undulating on track and fire-trail, with beach sections, headlands, rock platforms, lakes and lagoons, coastal forest and heathland. There are a couple of places where we need to take a low-tide route across rock platforms, as well as three wet water-crossings (Pambula River, Kiah Inlet, Wonboyn Lake) that will require a wade or short swim with dry bags.
As this is a feasibility study and we have restrictions on how much the support vehicle can carry, the trip will be limited to 8. The final cost needs to be calculated, but should be around $250 per person for accommodation and transport.
A multi day backpacking or base-camping activity.
