Tasmania South West National Park: South Coast Track (Trip Full with Waitlist)
Sat 01st Apr 2023
This walk traverses the beautiful south coast of Tasmania from Melaleuca to Cockle Bay/Creek. It's well-marked, long walk with variable scenery including beaches, rainforests, high ridges and button grass plains.
We'll allow up to 9 days (8 nights) to do the walk, which includes allowance for bad weather and a side trip to Louisa Bay.
Participants should have appropriate fitness, experience and gear for this multi-day walk. Although this walk is on a track, this is not a walk for beginners to multi-day hiking. The weather in the south west of Tasmania can be quite wet and wild requiring good raincoats and tents. Crossing the Ironbound and South Cape ranges can involve steep ascents/descents (900m, 500m respectively). Sections of the track will be muddy/rooty. And there are wades of unbridged creeks and estuaries especially the Louisa River.
Participants will need to fly in to Melaleuca to meet the trip leaders who'll be already there. They should also allow for possible weather/flight delays by not booking their interstate flights immediately before or after the walk dates.
